Popular has always been one of my favorite shows ever, and with the popularity of Glee, I think that everyone needs to watch Ryan Murphy's original kickass show! For anyone that doesn't know, the general plot of the show is; two girls (Brooke and Sam) who dislike each other because they're at opposite ends of the social ladder, are forced to become step sisters after their parents get engaged. The show does a really great job of showing just how important popularity is to everyone in high school, even those that say it isn't, and just what people will do to be popular - as well as what that popularity does to them! I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do another spam for this challenge, and it'll be comparing Popular to Glee, unless someone does it before I get the chance. So look out for that, I'm gonna have a lot of fun with it! To the spam! |

One can never underestimate the power of a good theme song/pretty credits, if you ask me. Who doesn't miss when shows had opening credits? It really sets the mood of the show, imo, and really gets your pumped for an episode, and Popular had some of the best credits ever. Not only were they super duper pretty (the editor or whatever went on to win an Oscar!), but the song is just perfect for the show. You know you have good credits when the song is fun to listen to outside of them! |
five.

I don't know about you guys, but some of my favorite scenes on any show, is when all the main characters, or at least a lot of them, are together. I don't know what it is, but it always just makes those scenes more fun, don't you think? Anyway, Popular had lots and lots of large group scenes, especially in the first season, and that always makes me happy. Plus! It was so fun to see the two groups beginning to blend together as the season progressed, and where the two groups just became one big one. |
four.

Pretty much the most popular episode of the show, and really the episode where the show hit it's stride, I think. It really defined it, anyway. The plot is basically that all the girls get their periods at the same time, making life a living hell for each other, but especially the boys, who decide it's a good idea to lock them in the girls bathroom for the night. On top of that, they had just written down their biggest secrets in a special class, as an attempt to clear their conscience. In true Nicole fashion, she steals all those secrets from the garbage, and the girls spend the night confessing to them, most of which involve Josh. |
three.

What sets Popular apart from all other shows, like ever, is how cracktastic it is. Seriously, it's so ridic and over the top, and campy, it's perfect. It starts off like a pretty normal show, until Ryan Murphy got bored, and started to really make it what it was. In that way, the Pilot and the first couple of episodes do not reflect the show at all. Obviously the whole show isn't cracky, there's usually one serious plot per episode, but the cracky stuff is the best part, definitely. It's such a shame that the WB interfered and tried to make the show something it wasn't in the second season, but still. It's just amazing. |
two.

Okay, this one is biased, not gonna lie, but I don't care. I really do think that their plot line is pretty much what OTPs are made of (yes, I've said that a billion times), and anyone that ships in fandom (aka everyone), will love them. How can you not love enemies that are forced to become sisters, and eventually become them? Whether you end up shipping them as sisters, or you ship them slashily (I go back and forth - sisters on the show, slashy in fics!), they're awesome. Embrace them. |
one.

Seriously, there really is no better reason to watch Popular than for the most amazing character ever created, Mary Cherry. There is no way that I can express her epicness, but I think the caps do a good job of it, lol. No matter how many times they ask, wonder, or call her retarded, it never stops being funny. She's just perfection and the show wouldn't be the same without her. |
Leslie and Carly thank you for your time.

I started singing the song because of your cut text and, you're right, it's so catchy and it fits the show so well.
Brooke/Sam were so cute. I loved how they became friends and sisters. I was so jealous of their bathroom.
Awesome spam, bb. I need to watch it again!

They were the cutest! I really loved how they progressed, and made improvements over the season, and then by S2, they were trying to get their parents back together because they wuved each other, aw.
Rewatch it with us when we do!

Everytime you picspam something to do with this show, I think I'm going to re-watch it. But I still haven't. Maybe in the summer though :D

Also,
It starts off like a pretty normal show, until Ryan Murphy got bored, and started to really make it what it was.

Such a fantastic show. And a gorgeous picspam. Although I think "the huge amounts of gay" should be a reason in itself.
May 2 2010, 21:39:08 UTC 2 years ago
Haha, that would be a great reason, because it really was. I love when they say that on the commentaries, that it wasn't a show for teens, but really 30 year old gay men, lol.
